National Cherry Blossom Festival!!

cherry blossomsI really enjoyed myself this past Sunday on the last day of the  National Cherry Blossom Festival. The festival was from March 20th-April 12th. I never ever go to the festival. I usually make my way down to the Cherry Blossoms when they are basically gone/ Last time I went was with my girls in 2010.  During that visit, the Cherry Blossoms were barely there, it was late April.

However, this time they were fully bloomed, vibrant and so gorgeous!

Such a sight to see! So many Cherry Blossom trees! You like that rhyme?

Processed with VSCOcam with s3 presetMy mom is visiting from Ghana and I try to take her walking every Sunday after church. I thought that the Cherry Blossom Festival would be perfect! We walked for two hours! YAY us. For my mom, that is good! We got off at the Smithsonian Metro station. We walked from there to the Washington Monument, then the Tidal Basin and then the Thomas Jefferson Memorial which my mom was so fascinated by. I actually didn’t feel like walking there because my big bag was weighing me down and there were just too many people walking in that direction. However, my mom insisted that we walk there before heading home. Who would’ve thunk that my mom would convince me to keep walking? I am always telling her “Let’s keep walking” because she starts to complain and she gets restless.

That’s the Thomas Jefferson Memorial in the distance. I thought we would never get there.

On our way there, we ran into some Hula Dancers.

Hula DancersWe watched them  dance for a bit. See the video below.

I snapped some shots of the Washington Monument on the way. I love capturing it from different angles 🙂

God bless the woman that took this for us because the selfie struggle was REAL. I even saw people with selfie sticks.

Random monument pic below. One day I would love to go inside of the Washington Monument!

These paddle boats looked like so much fun! I asked my mom if she wanted to get in them and she said no. Can’t say I was surprised. We both can’t swim but that’s what the life jackets are

Cherry Blossoms or not DC is always so nice to visit! I plan to take my mom back so she can see the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. Train station

If you check out my post from last April called Spring Happenings, I have a list of parks and gardens to visit in DC and MD!  Feel free to check it out .

Also the Cherry Blossoms were a gift from the Japanese, click here to read more about the history of them.

Have you visited the Cherry Blossoms in DC ?
